Cathy is a Certified Paralegal with over 15 years experience in law firms in Oklahoma and Texas. She has a broad legal background, but has specialized experience in the area of civil litigation, including trial support.
After high school, Cathy began working in a law firm in her Texas hometown as the receptionist and bookkeeper. In that position she also managed the firm's law library and took care of office supplies. After a few months she began training as a legal secretary for the senior partner and his legal assistant. They became mentors by taking time to explain why things were done a certain way and instilled a desire for excellence and professionalism. An organization named the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) was formed, and Cathy's mentor became one of the first legal assistants certified by NALA.
Several years later Cathy moved to Arlington, Texas, and began working as a Civil Litigation Specialist. She enrolled in a Torts class at Southern Methodist University and then began studying on her own for NALA's certification exam. After meeting NALA's prerequisites she took the extensive two-day exam, and in 1984, she earned the professional designation of Certified Legal Assistant (CLA).
As a working mom, life happened. A couple of children were born. A couple of job transfers and new positions for her husband. And then approximately 8 years at home during which she homeschooled her youngest daughter. And just like that -- or so it seemed -- she had allowed that professional certification to expire. She was out of touch with the legal profession.
Cathy rediscovered her passion for all things legal when she returned to work as the paralegal for a senior partner in Oklahoma City in 2008. Once again, she began studying for that big exam. In May, 2009, she re-earned her professional status, this time choosing the designation Certified Paralegal (CP).
After research and much soul searching, in June, 2009, she formed her own company, Digital Paralegal Services, LLC, offering virtual paralegal services and total attorney support to attorneys throughout the United States.
